Congratulations to Cemary Chavez on her commitment to play Division I at Xavier University! Joining her sister Samantha Diaz in the beautiful state of Ohio!

Hailing from Compton, CA and making history being the first lacrosse player from Compton to go D1, young Cemary Chavez picked up lacrosse for the very first time in her school yard with Harlem Lacrosse LA (formerly City Lacrosse). This wide-eyed, curious and outgoing, golf playing 5th grader had no idea she was about to embark on the road to playing Division 1 Lacrosse!

Within days of seeing her play for the first time, our coaches could see her potential, and we immediately offered Cemary an opportunity to join Dragons Lacrosse and Fire thereafter. It did not take long for little Cemary to fall head over heels for the game of lacrosse. Today she is a true lacrosse rat, THE wall ball queen, and has been extremely dedicated to perfecting her craft. Those silky smooth hands did not happen over night and were made with many hours of bouncing the lacrosse ball against the 3 foot wall in her backyard.

Cemary has truly helped set the standard of the Fire organization. She is the first to every practice and last to leave, always on time, and holds the strongest attendance in program history. She has embodied and helped shape everything Fire stands for with her welcoming spirit, ride or die friendship, and infectious energy. She helped us build this club from the ground up! It’s no wonder why we have turned to her to lead many first practice cheers or break down the team huddle.

Like Fire, Xavier will be a new lacrosse program going into their first year this season. Cemary said it best herself  “I learned the best teams are not found, they are built and I know what it takes to build a great program.” CUE THE WATER WORKS…YES YOU DO!!!!!! And just like that our curious little girl, with the big dream, is on her way!!! We are so excited for your next chapter Cemary. Not only have you left a HUGE mark on our organization but you will continue to be an inspiration for the many girls who want to be just like you.

Cemary will look to major is speech pathology at Xavier University, another dream we know she will hit out of the park. Saying we are SO PROUD is an understatement. Please join us in congratulating Cemary! All for one and one for all, the Musketeers just feel right for this courageous leader. We love you!
