JOIN US FOR WINTER 2021/22

DRAGONS WINTER LACROSSE - GAMES STARTING IN JANUARY! - Sign up Today!

The number one question we get asked from our players on a weekly basis is “When will we get to play games?” That moment is finally here!

Over the course of the past three months your son or daughter has participated in one or multiple of our monthly training sessions. In our training sessions we focus on stick work, basic fundamentals, and small sided scrimmages in order to lay the foundation for upcoming seasons. It has been so clear to us that so many of our participants have fallen in love with this sport and are ready for that next level of competition which is…GAME PLAY!

Both of our Dragons Boys & Girls team will be participating in the West LA Winter League starting January 8th. The season will end on February 26th and carry us right into the start of the Spring Season. The Winter season is a perfect preview of the long Spring Season because your practice during the week will be complimented by a game each weekend. Players will get to apply what they learn in practice in real time, experience camaraderie, and understand the importance of teamwork all while repping the Blue and Green!

If you did not get a chance to join our Fall Trainings it is not too late to jump on the bandwagon! Lacrosse is a growing sport and we have a world class staff that can help your son or daughter get up to speed quickly! All that we ask is that they come with a good attitude and the desire to work hard!

REGISTRATION & PRICING

Good news!! We are able to offer prices lower than 2019, the last time we had Winter League. In 2019 we charged $545, plus a separate uniform fee. This winter we are able to reduce fees to $475 plus the same uniform charge. This results in a net reduction in cost of almost 15%.

Our pricing model is what we call “blended average pricing.” This means we take all costs and divide them equally by the number of anticipated players. This approach allows us to offer the lowest possible price for everyone. The youngest teams actually cost the most to operate because league fees are virtually the same as for older teams, yet rosters are about half the size. Coaching resources are also equal for all teams, so again, a smaller roster costs more to operate. On the flip side, older teams get more practice time than younger teams, so it all evens out in the end.

  • Season pricing for all groups is $475
  • The uniform & practice pinnie package is $65

In an effort to make lacrosse as affordable as possible, we offer a payment plan option as part of the registration. If we need to make special arrangements, we are happy to do so, just reach out to randy@santamonicadragons.org.

LOANER GEAR (!!)

Loaner gear for BOYS will no longer be available during the Winter League so please test out what you need to test in December and please purchase gear if necessary by January. Click HERE to see starter kits on SportStop.com

UNIFORMS & PINNIES

Players will receive the traditional navy/gray/green 2-piece Dragons uniform, as well as a navy/white practice pinnie as part of the season registration. The cost is $65 and it is mandatory. We will be using the same uniform again in the spring season, so this cost is amortized pretty quickly. The uniforms are coming from China and will ship on 12/31. Normally it takes 3-5 days to receive them here in LA via DHL, but due to the shipping backlog, we are not able to secure a firm ETA. This means we may need to play the first game without the official uniform. We hope it works out but we just wanted to give you all a heads up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to:

VIRTUAL TRAINING

WELCOME TO DRAGONS VIRTUAL TRAINING!

COVID 19 has been a massive disruption to all of our lives and impacted us all. 5 weeks ago, we had to make a choice: sit on our hands and see how things develop, or embrace the challenge and provide our players with the best possible solution. We worked 12-hour days for a week and built a completely new program that is now well under way. We host 15-16 calls and engage around 200 participants every week.

More importantly, Dragons Virtual Training has a specific purpose. We are teaching players how to be better athletes on their own, when nobody is watching. This is something we have always stressed to our players. But when we are on the field and in the frenzy of day-to-day normal life, there simply isn’t time or desire to do more. Now, all we have is “working on our own.” We are in a semi-permanent state of working while nobody is watching.

Dragons Virtual Training EMPOWERS our players to make productive use of their time to become better athletes, lacrosse players, and also to engage their mind.

WE JUST ADDED A VIRTUAL TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL BOYS. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE INFO.

Dragons Virtual Training is designed as an online "sports school" to give players a well-rounded curriculum that is paired with a 5-day a week calendar to interact with teammates and coaches. Pillars of Dragons Virtual Training are:

  • Structure & Schedule
  • Diverse Learning
  • Connection & Community
  • Independent Work & Accountability
  • Sense of Accomplishment & Fun

Here is the typical SCHEDULE for the week:

  • Monday - Individual Training assignments are sent out
  • Tuesday - Live session with Coaches
  • Wednesday - Workout Wednesday with 3 sessions: Footwork, Stickwork and Circuit
  • Thursday - Live session with Coaches
  • Friday - Goalie session & Parent Forum

Many players participate in 5 sessions a week, most do at least 3.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...

"Thanks for all your team is doing for the kids - Lyla is loving it!!

I even shared with my son's soccer team what you are doing as a model for sports teams - you could totally host an entire webinar on how to keep sports going in pandemic - you've got a great program going!!"

Dr Lori Baudino, BC-DMT

STRUCTURE & SCHEDULE

Zoom calls have replaced fields. This video shows you how our coaches and players interact with each other on our new "fields". And it shows that a lot of meaningful work can be done in a virtual program. Also, if you take a look at the captions in the lower left, you can get a feel for the structure of the schedule.

DIVERSE LEARNING

A quick word about our CURRICULUM. Our Individual Training assignments focus on building overall body strength. Footwork and Stickwork are both lacrosse specific. Everything is designed to work indoors, in a small space. The Live sessions reinforce the Individual Training, but we also spend a considerable amount of time working on mindset development, lacrosse IQ, as well as the roots and meaning for the game. We assign homework after every session and we do a lot of in-class participation such as “wear your favorite shirt” day, or “tell us about someone that inspires you.” We will also start to add outdoor classes for players with more space at their disposal to work on shooting and dodging exercises. We end the week with a call just for parents to talk through any questions regarding Virtual Training.

On our Zoom calls we work with players on both mental and physical aspects of being an athlete. In this video you can see a collection of vision boards made by girls and discussed in a live session, as well as shooting videos that were sent in to us as part of a homework assignment.

THE BACK END

Dragons Virtual Training has a fully integrated back end. We use TeamSnap for:

  • Rosters
  • Schedules
  • Messaging
  • File uploads (reference videos, training assignments, drill descriptions)
  • Statistics

When you participate in Dragons Virtual Training it feels like a normal season. You are on a roster and can see your teammates. You get to know your coaches. Every event is scheduled and you receive notifications and reminders prior to each event. The Zoom call link for each event is embedded in the schedule notification so you can click right through. No searching for the e-mail with the link at the last second. Players can always access reference documentation in the Media folders of TeamSnap. If we e-mailed it, you can be pretty sure that it is in a Media folder.

STATISTICS

Screen Shot 2020-04-19 at 22.43.06

An important feature to point out is STATISTICS. We try to hold our players accountable for their Individual Training. To that end we have set up the TeamSnap Statistics feature to allow players to record weekly numbers for wall ball, running, jump rope, footwork, stickwork, circuits and more. At the end of the week we publish the team and individual top 3 statistics. This video shows a few of our players completing their Individual Training.

CONNECTION & COMMUNITY

Although we are not able to see each other on the field as we are used to, the level of communication between teammates has gone up dramatically. Last week a group of middle school players organized a birthday celebration for a fellow player all on their own, without interaction from parents. Virtual Training provided the consistent interaction and structure necessary for players to create their own "project groups" and to get things done on their own.

DRILL LIBRARY

One more important thing to point out is that we have our own DRILL LIBRARY that players can reference as part of their training. We already have close to 50 videos up and add more material continuously.

REGISTRATION & QUESTIONS

Dragons Virtual Training is now open to all boys & girls in K-8 at an all-inclusive cost of $45 per week.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Randy Grube at randy@santamonicadragons.org.

JUST ADDED: BOYS HS VIRTUAL TRAINING

Nobody really thought that we would spend the Spring launching Dragons Virtual Training, but here we are. And to be honest, we have become quite good at this new form of training. Mostly because the core value of Virtual Training is the same as on-field training: we are providing the coach-player relationship, the team experience, as well as a reliable routine that gives players something to look forward to.

Our High School program is different from our youth program in that it has a 5-day a week structure and is intended as a framework to support players on their individual paths.

Testimonials

"Dragons has been monumental in my growth as a player because they provided intense practices, encouraging coaching, and a family environment. The environment was unlike anything I had previously been a part of. Everyone wanted me to succeed and be happy, which made me want to play harder and get better."

Owen Gaffney - 2021

“Mason had a blast and loved playing with his buds and meeting some great new teammates as well. Bronson had a great time and learned a lot about being challenged with playing against bigger and older kids. Both have improved greatly from this season and your entire coaching staff, and I thank you for that. Every coach we came in contact with in your organization was top notch, friendly and great with the kids. Rarely do my boys say how much they liked the coaches in any sport they participate in. Here they regularly commented and recited things Coach Krum and Coach Max had told them. Thanks again and you have a great organization.”

Matt Gavia

“I have had all 3 of my kids attend the HLT sessions.  My daughters are 16 and 12 years old and my son is 14.  Lindsey does an amazing job working on a variety of strength, speed, and agility but what I find the most enticing part of HLT is Lindsey’s focus on the mental approach.  Coach Lindsey stresses the importance of a positive attitude, what it takes to be a high performer such as getting a good night sleep and eating correctly.  HLT is so much more than just a workout, she is offering the participants a view into what made her a successful Division 1 athlete and it has been great for all three of my kids.”

Kevin Doyle

“Thank you, Lyndsey, for an inspiring and awesome HLT session yesterday! Dylan and Aidan had started off the afternoon resistant, reluctant, and frankly, unhappy about having to do more “conditioning” ... but both of them ended the session having had fun and looking forward to future sessions. Appreciate your encouragement and expertise.”

Malena Law

“My two kids are really enjoying Lyndsey’s Offseason HLT and attend weekly. What they like about her program is that they know they are getting a challenging workout but they don’t feel exhausted or drained from the sessions. They also appreciate Lyndsey’s interest in their self-care outside of the sessions, which has them focusing on nutrition and healthy habits. It is amazing that not only my daughter who is a Fire player but also my son can benefit from Lyndsey’s professional knowledge and passion for fitness and lacrosse. I think their commitment to the Offseason HLT program will greatly enhance their fitness levels when lacrosse tournaments commence this winter and it will make their tournament experiences all the more fulfilling.”

Dragons Directors

Erik Krum - Athletic Director

Meghan will be coaching all age levels and is the Program Director for Fire Santa Monica, as well as the overall Fire Lacrosse Program Director.

New Players

We strive to make playing lacrosse as simple and affordable as possible. We hold free clinics throughout the year, offer new players a free trial session and provide free loaner gear. We even have a LaunchPad program that provides guidelines on how to get into lacrosse and at what time of the year.

Advanced Players

Over the last 6 years we have developed hundreds of boys into tournament level players and won close to 50 championships. Our high school boys compete at the highest level on the West Coast and are active in the recruiting process. The Dragons girls program serves as a development program and advanced players participate in Fire Lacrosse during tournament season.

The Annual Calendar

Dragons offers programming for boys and girls in K through 12 from September to the end of July. Fall is the best time of year to get started. In there winter we offer recreational and tournament teams, as well as high school recruiting for boys. In the spring we focus on participation in youth rec leagues. In the summer we are back to doing tournaments and traveling across the West and East Coast for recruiting events.

Player Development

We take a long-term approach to developing boys and girls into the best possible and well-rounded student athletes they can be; on and off the field. Our coaching staff is the most expansive and knowledgable in the area and our 360º Player Development curriculum provides the structure for a path from elementary school to through high school.

The Team Experience

Imagine a place where you can just come and be yourself. A place where you can take as much or as little time as you need to develop your skills. A place full of positive energy and support. A place that is inclusive and supportive and easy to make friends in. That is the essence of the Dragons Lacrosse team experience.

Events

We like to bring the lacrosse community together several times a year to just have fun or be part of a good cause. Every Halloween we host the Pumpkin Shoot on the beach in Santa Monica and we have several videos to show for it. Every June we host the Laps 4 Lax Fundraiser to bring everyone together for a fun and meaningful pre-summer event.
